Hatt Hall
Historic Hatt Hall is restored from the original music room built by Captain Hatt, the
original owner of the property. It features 14' high ceilings, highlighted by original
1905 punched-tin wall, cornice moldings and magnificent chandeliers with adjustable
lighting and built in 10' screen.
Hatt Hall was constructed in 1886 by Captain A. Hatt as a society hall with an adjoining
library, anteroom and dining room where numerous private clubs, fraternal secret societies,
civic and government agencies held meetings and events. When completed, the rooms were
furnished with Redwood wainscot and molding, thick carpeting, central heating, gas lighting
and fine furnishings. In 1905 the original wainscoting was replaced with pressed-tin wall
coverings and metal corbel with a Lyre musical design that was made in San Francisco.
In 1912 the Napa Milling company converted the Hatt Hall into its milling center with the
millstone and sifting operations in Hatt Hall. The ground grain products were then dropped
by gravity into the six bagging machines located on the floor below. The current Hatt Hall
retains most of the original Redwood wainscoting, pressed tin, metal corbelling, on-site
fired clay brick wall, which Captain Hatt made from Napa River clay. The wood molding is
the original Hatt Hall design.
