NAPA RIVER INN OPENS LUXURY RIVER FRONT HOTEL IN DOWNTOWN NAPA
August, 2000, Napa Valley California – The Napa River Inn, Downtown Napa’s only up-scale boutique hotel, is now open for business. Both the Embarcadero and historic Hatt Building are now booking guests in the 34 completed rooms. The Napa River Inn anchors the historic Napa Mill Project on the Napa River and will offer a total of 66 luxury rooms on the picturesque 2.5 acre riverside site.
Originally built in 1884and designated a National Registry Historic Landmark, the Napa Mill Project is the largest historic redevelopment undertaking in the history of Napa. In addition to the Napa River Inn, the Napa Mill Project and will house a variety of restaurants, Epicurean food markets, boutique shops, a farmer’s market, an arts and crafts market, plus an ongoing schedule of special events, festivals and river activities. Of the hotel, General Manager Nancy Lochmann stated, “Taking a 19th century historical landmark into the 21st century as a destination lodging property offers a wide variety of challenges, but the result is more successful than we could have hoped for – and guests eagerly agree.”
The Napa River Inn’s historic Hatt Building rooms feature oversized quarters with fire-places, canopy beds, tufted lounge chairs, velvet ottomans, slipper tubs and walk-in showers. Located on the upper level of the1884-vintage building, these historic rooms have maple hardwood floors, massive cove and baseboard moldings and offer an historic perspective of the Napa Valley while providing the convenience of modern amenities. Art in the Hatt Building rooms is reflective of a burgeoning river town of the 1800’s.
The Hatt Building features two meeting rooms – The Keig Board Room, accommodating up to 12 people, available immediately, and Hatt Hall with banquet and meeting accommodations for up to 100 people, available September 15. Hatt Hall’s interior appointments include the original pressed tin wall panel sand deep cove moldings, originally in-stalled in the space when it was a music room in the late 1800’s. Both spaces offer state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and are equipped with data ports, up to 24 in Hatt Hall.
The Embarcadero is situated directly on the river with many rooms having river views. Designed with an elegant yacht in mind, the rooms feature a cheery theme of yellow in the wall coverings and furnishings with cherry wood wainscoting and coffered paneling. Round mirrors in carved-rope frames reflect the fireplaces and graceful roman shades in each room. Granite counters on the custom-crafted bath vanities add to the luxury of the stone-tiled bathrooms, some with separate walk-in showers.
All accommodations at the Napa River Inn include California breakfast, electronic room key card, individually controlled air conditioning and heating, in-room coffee with premium roasted coffee, 25” cable TV with movies and video games, daily newspaper, in-room checkout, refrigerators, CD clock radios, Napa Valley Spa Champagne amenities, irons and boards, hairdryers, make-up mirrors and night lights. The business traveler will appreciate two telephones in every room with voice mail, plus voice and data-ports, the full-service conference facilities, a complete business service center, as well as same day cleaning and laundry Monday through Saturday.

Open Window Gifts & Flowers and Geezer’s restaurant are al-ready open at the Napa Mill Project and 5 Star Yacht charters is operating from the dock. Sweetie Pies bakery opens August 15, followed by Napa Wine Works and The Sweet Shoppe.
The Napa River Inn is the first completed phase of the downtown Napa major renovation and redevelopment. With the nearby $70 million American Center for Wine, Food and the Arts only a short walk away, the Jarvis Music Conservatory up the street, the Napa Opera House restoration just two blocks away and the Napa Wine Train across the river, hotel guests have a wide selection of nearby interests to pursue.
Visitors may arrive at the Napa River Inn via boat on the Napa River and use the City of Napa River dock. The newly approved $250,000,000 Napa River Restoration Project, to be completed over the course of the next seven years, will add a series of river trails, water access and nature hikes to the broad complement of activities for Napa River Inn guests.
