HISTORIC NAPA MILL OFFERS WINTERIME ENTERTAINMENT ON THE NAPA RIVER WINTER HOTEL PACKAGE ENCOURAGES GETAWAYS
January, 2003, Napa Valley California - The historic Napa Mill project on the Napa River celebrates the more relaxed winter season among the multi-faceted, two-and-one-half acre riverside entertainment complex. Originally built in 1884 and designated a National Registry Historic Landmark, the Napa Mill project is the largest historic redevelopment undertaking in the history of Napa and the region’s newest entertainment venue.
The Napa River Inn, Napa’s only upscale boutique hotel, is offering a Winter Getaway Package for Two to encourage travelers to join in the many celebrations happening at the Napa Mill through the first part of the year. The Winter Getaway includes accommodations for two in a superior or deluxe room with fireplace, breakfast at Sweetie Pies Bakery, complimentary wine tasting at the Napa General Store and an Inn-Room massage for two, all for $299 per night, through March 31, 2003.
On February 1, the Napa River Inn will host the Napa Valley Jazz Festival’s first performance of the 2003 “Festival on the Napa River” series. MUNDELL LOWE and FRIENDS: An Evening of Ballads and Intimate Music featuring Mundell Lowe, guitar, with Jules Broussard, saxophone and Blue Port Jazz recording artist Steve Situm, vocalist, will per-form, beginning at 7:30. The highly-acclaimed Mundell Lowe is an honored veteran of albums and concerts with Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Peggy Lee, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Lester Young, Benny Carter, Conte Candoli and many others, and is noted for his work with film-maker and musician Woody Allen. Other jazz events, to be announced, are scheduled for March 29, May 23, 24 and 25.
On Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22, the Napa River Inn will host a Murder Mystery Weekend. This all-inclusive entertainment package includes two nights of the best available room at check-in, a welcoming reception, two dinners, one lunch, one breakfast, one brunch, and a performance, for $899 per couple. From January 31 to February 28, the Napa Valley College Fine Art Gallery in Napa Mill’s Keig Hallwill feature "Four Artists' View on Reality," with the works of Tom Gehrig, Diego Marcial Rios, Hugo Kobayashi and Leitha Thrall. A reception for the artists will be held Friday, January 31st, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.
The Napa River Inn consists of 66 luxury rooms on the picturesque two-and-one-half acre riverside site. All accommodations throughout the year include complimentary California breakfast at Sweetie Pies Bakery or the Napa General Store and many have fireplaces and river views. Also at the Napa Mill are the Napa General Store, the award-winning Celadon restaurant, Sweetie Pies bakery, Greenhaus European Day Spa, Gondola Servizio and Italian Imports, and Angéle, a French country farmhouse restaurant.
Greg Cole moved his popular Celadon restaurant specializing in "global comfort food" to the Napa Mill in early July of 2002. Celadon and Chef Cole, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park, received a three star rating in The San Francisco Examiner and four stars in The Santa Rosa Press Democrat. In 1998 Chef Cole was selected as one of the twenty-four" hottest young chefs" in America by The Wine Spectator magazine. USA TODAY chose Celadon as one of the 'ten great places to dine at the bar' in the December 8,2000 edition. Celadon received the Zagat Survey "Award of Distinction" for 2001and has been a Wine Spectator "Award of Excellence" recipient for the innovative and eclectic wine list.
Claude Rouas, first known for his L’Etoile in the Huntington Hotel in San Francisco, with daughters Bettina and Claudia, opened the French farmhouse-styled Angéle in December. ChefChristophe Gerard, formerly of Taill event in Paris, L’Espinasse in New York and The Tides in Miami Beach captures the essence of the French countryside with his inspired Provençal menu within the intimate riverside location.
The Napa General Store at the Napa Mill is described by its tagline "where the wine &river meet." The 4,530 square foot Napa General Store features a brick pizza oven and wood-fired rotisserie, a Bonavita coffee/espresso bar, a 28-footwine bar, delicatessen, as well as gourmet packaged foods and specialty merchandise. Creative picnic baskets to-order and gourmet-to-go fare are available for the busy home entertainer, and Napa General Store offers regular tastings of featured seasonal products. In addition, the Napa General Store can cater private events inside the market or on the Riverbend Performance Plaza.
